The Other Side of Green

Written for a short film by Lisa-Ann Robinson

Ponytails, painted nails, cheap perfume and markdown sales
So happy in the cinders till your pretty head got turned
You said ‘I do’ to Jimmy Choo, to McQueen and Miu Miu
And drove off in his BMW so fast…all the bridges were burned

Oh, on THE OTHER SIDE OF GREEN
You look just like heaven on a movie screen
I’m so dazzled by the sparkle, I’m blinded by the sheen
Of everything that beckons from THE OTHER SIDE OF GREEN

My crying baby drives me crazy, and my man seems cheap and lazy
Football on the tele’s blaring all night long
I smoke and drink, I start to think of you all dressed in silk and mink
You gave your heart quick as a blink to Mr Right…or was he Mr Wrong?

Oh, on THE OTHER SIDE OF GREEN
I was looking for heaven in a glossy magazine
I was dazzled by the sparkle and blinded by the sheen
And I didn’t see the truth on THE OTHER SIDE -

Oh, on THE OTHER SIDE OF GREEN
I’m a happy Cinderella and I keep the home hearth clean
And now I have no yearning for anything I’ve seen
Beyond my back garden, on THE OTHER SIDE
Beyond my back garden, on THE OTHER SIDE OF GREEN
